The Chamber Celebrates Reaching 600 Members

The Chamber Celebrates Reaching 600 Members

The Conyers-Rockdale Chamber celebrated the milestone of reaching 600+ members on April 18, 2016. The celebration occurred at our office location where members stopped by and enjoyed food and networking. Chairman Earl Wise of the Bank of North Georgia was the grill master, serving up hotdogs. It was a beautiful day at the Chamber’s office as we celebrated.

Chamber membership is a good investment.

Reaching 600+ members has been a great achievement for the Chamber. In the last several years the Chamber has experienced consistent growth combined with a successful retention rate. One of the reasons for this achievement has been due to our continuous focus on providing a good investment for our members.

Here are 4 ways our Chamber membership is a good investment:

A Variety of Programs

We offer a variety of programs in membership, community development, and economic development. This variety gives opportunities to all our members no matter if their interest is networking with other members, building community awareness, or seeking growth opportunities.

Strong Leadership

Our Board and committees are volunteer-driven, meaning strong leadership is critical to our success. We help our members improve their leadership skills through programs such as our Entrepreneurial Academy, Leadership Rockdale, Rockdale Young Professional Leaders, and 12@12 luncheon. We also keep our members aware of business and community issues through our legislature breakfast, education partnerships, and other special programs.

Good Communication

We understand how important good communication is to our success. Our Chamber Ambassadors Program helps new and existing members communicate together so they can learn and see the growth opportunities in our community. Operation Thank You is another program that helps us communicate our appreciation to members while answering questions about how we can best help them and getting critical feedback. In addition, members get regular updates about upcoming ribbon cuttings, networking events, and other activities through our newsletter, social media, and website.

Membership Support

We are thankful. Our growth and retention is directly related to our members being very supportive of what we do and recognizing that we all grow by supporting each other. This is clear with the success of our Leads Groups, where members meet to aid each other in growing their businesses. We also understand the importance membership attendance has for successful programs and we proudly boast that our events are well attended. Favorite events such as the Network Luncheon on the first Wednesday of each month and the quarterly Business After Hours are regularly filled to capacity. And although we have kept the name 12@12, we have restructured this luncheon event to accommodate more members because of the interest.

As our membership grows even stronger, we continue to stay focused on providing beneficial activities and programs while finding new ways to maximize member investment with the Chamber. If you are interested in becoming a member or have questions, contact us at 770.483.7049.

How Members Benefit From Ribbon Cuttings

How Members Benefit From Ribbon Cuttings

When you become a new member in the Chamber, you have the option of scheduling a ribbon cutting with us. Whether you have recently started a business or have been in business for years, you can have a ribbon cutting to celebrate your new beginning as a Chamber member. This is a great way for us to introduce your business to the community and for you to grow your business.

The impact that a ribbon cutting will have on you as a new member is enormous. Consider these three benefits:

Ribbon cuttings build community awareness.

Announcements are some of the ways that Chamber members benefit from ribbon cutting ceremonies. Once we schedule the date, the event will be publicized by the Chamber on our social media sites and on our website. A photo from the ceremony will also be included in our newsletter, which is published in the Rockdale Citizen newspaper.

We invite members to your ceremony.

The Chamber sends out invitations to our ambassadors, staff members, and all of our membership. By inviting them to your ribbon cutting ceremony, you will have a crowd of local business professionals who will come to the ceremony to support you as a new member. Since this is your event, all eyes will be on you as we celebrate your business.

It’s an opportunity for growth.

By having the ribbon cutting at your location, the local professionals in our community will be able to view your products and learn about your services. You have the increased potential that they will buy once they see what you sell. In addition, you might decide to coordinate a bigger celebration alongside the ribbon cutting to take advantage of the crowd that will be coming. In the past, businesses provided tours of their facility, recognized new product developments, arranged for grand opening celebrations, or highlighted other major changes that same day. It is your opportunity to share what you do and engage people so they can become your customers and advocates.

Since the beginning of 2016, we have had a number of ribbon cuttings. Here are some of the members that we have celebrated:

Why You Should Join a Chamber Leads Group

Why You Should Join a Chamber Leads Group

Would you like to have a part time sales force helping you get new clients? When you join a Chamber leads group, you are joining a group that can help expand your sales network. This weekly commitment gives you the opportunity to get to know other members and them to know you. By sharing what you need in your business to grow your sales, the group can become your sales support.

What is a leads group?

This is a group of members helping members build their business, whether you own a business in the auto, fashion or tech industries like Green Bits. Your group has approximately 10 to 20 members who you enlist as part time sales people. During regular interactions, they learn about your business so they can help provide referrals to you. The group provides weekly engagement in a positive working environment where you share resources and build connections.

Leads group members learn and know about your business.

You get approximately 10 minutes to present about your business. Presentations are scheduled on a rotational basis during meetings so every group member has a turn to present throughout the quarter. During your presentation time, you have the floor to explain who your ideal client is and what members should know to help refer that ideal client to you. Because your presentations are rotated, you can discuss about various seasonal projects and events that would attract clients at specific times during the year.

JumpstartYourMorning

Leads groups gather quarterly for Jump Start Your Morning event.

Leads group members will get to provide an infomercial at each weekly meeting. This continuous introduction gives you the opportunity to remind your group about what it is you need from them to help grow your business. Therefore, they get to know you and understand how they can help you grow your business.

As a business owner, manager, or sales person, you are very busy. By joining a leads group, you can maximize your time selling by helping other members refer business your way when they are meeting people outside of the group and hear certain buzzwords. Besides having the knowledge of what your business sales needs are, you will share your business cards, flyers and other information to help when they refer business to you. And you learn to do the same for them so you all get referrals that grow your businesses.

Visit our quarterly Jump Start Your Morning event.

Each quarter, the Chamber leads groups hold networking together in “Jump Start Your Morning”. This event is free to anyone interested in learning more about joining one of our leads groups. In addition, Chamber members can attend a couple of weekly leads group meetings to determine if they want to join. Contact the Chamber to learn about our next Jump Start Your Morning event or to join a leads group.

2016 Annual Meeting Celebrates Achievements

incoming-outgoing chairmen

2015 Chairman of the Board, Deborah Armstrong, presents gavel to 2016 Chairman of the Board, Earl Wise during the Annual Meeting.

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2016 Annual Meeting in January at the Georgia International Horse Park. The event celebrated outgoing Chairman of the Board, Deborah Armstrong, and incoming Chairman of the Board, Earl Wise. It also recognized the achievements and contributions of individuals and businesses in our community. They are the ones who make our community legendary!

The annual meeting was executed by the 2015 Chairman, Deborah Armstrong, who is the Chief Executive Officer at Rockdale Medical Center. We thank Chairman Armstrong for an exciting year for the Chamber that was filled with many achievements. She came into 2015 recognizing that our small size provided an opportunity so she focused on new ways to create activity and opportunity within our Chamber. She succeeded in bringing together our community businesses and leaders, encouraging them to work together to build upon our great foundation, challenging each member to actively participate, and working hard to grow our Chamber.

This prestigious award is selected from nominations for outstanding small business Chamber of Commerce members. There are many deserving individuals who exemplify professional excellence in our community. This year’s recipient was Jaquacer “J” Middlebrooks, who is the President at E. Smith Box.

While we appreciate all that our many volunteers have contributed in 2015, we look forward to an even brighter future! Barlay recognized in top 40 under 40

Thua G Barlay photoThe Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that one of its Board of Governors, Thua G. Barlay, has the unique privilege of being an honoree of two major publications recognizing 40 individuals under the age of 40.

Earlier this month, and for the 18th year, Georgia Trend recognized a group of 40 outstanding Georgians under the age of 40 – “Georgia’s Best and Brightest.” The honorees represent business, government, politics, nonprofits, science, conservation and education. The 40 were chosen from over 400 nominations made by readers throughout the state. Final selections were made by the Georgia Trend editorial staff.

In addition, next month, The Atlanta Business Chronicle will spotlight the next generation of Atlanta business leaders – 40 people under age 40 who make significant career achievements and have demonstrated social responsibility – “Atlanta’s Rising Business & Community Leaders.” The 40 were chosen from over 600 nominations from the Metro-Atlanta region. The nominations were reviewed by previous 40 Under 40 honorees and final selections were made by the Atlanta Business Chronicle editorial staff. The 2014 40 Under 40 Awards winners will be profiled in the chronicle’s November 14, 2014 issue.

We are appreciative of the work that Thua has done with the Chamber and within the community and wanted to share this recognition.
